Re-Calibrate

Throughout Good Friday, the doors of Journey (my church in Franklin, TN) are open for anyone to come and re-calibrate their souls and focus on the Greatest Gift any of us could ever receive. The mood here is very reflective, meditative and reverent. All of the chairs have been removed and space has been created to simply come and fix your gaze on the cross.

Our creative atmospheric team created this wall of windows and doors at the entrance of our space. With haze in the room, you can make out rays of light beaming through the window panes.

This station contains a water basin made out of concrete and rusted nails. Next to it are red pieces of paper that you can write what is on your heart and then place into the water. The red ink dissolves in the water, erasing what was written, turning the water red. On the wall space next to it, i am VJ-ing scenes from “The Passion of the Christ”, blended with a red textured crown of thorns graphic.

This is the communion station. In the background are our main screens running a loop of images.

In the center of the room is a cross, surrounded with open Bibles and pillows for kneeling and praying.

On another side of the room is another cross station.

As you leave, you can see our mosaic artwork. Each mosaic piece represents one of our “partners” (we don’t have “members”). Each person’s piece was placed there by the actual person. It’s an expression each of us goes through when we make the commitment to “partner” with Journey. As you can see, it’s filled up. We’ve begun four more mosaics, each representing the four imperatives of our church….Spiritual Formation…Community….Worship….Mission. these mosaic experiences take place at our “Encounter” worship and prayer gatherings that happen every 3 months, and tonight will be our next Encounter Gathering and mosaic experience where new partners will join our church.

Projected above the original mosaic are the same scenes from “the Passion” as from the atonement station.
